Christmas Is Over

by Memphis Evans

The tree is out by the curb
Bright, pretty paper is torn on the floor
The goose is just gristle and bone
And families are struggling to travel back home
Christmas...is over

And it's almost a new year
The city is falling apart at the seams
And thinking long-term looks good Only In Dreams
Airports are clogged and I'm telling you this
Chris...tmas is over

A year of shopping days left
Did you get what you wanted or did you get more?
Were you happy and merry and gay?
Or did you sit by yourself and play XBox all day? Either way
Christmas...is over

They're boxing in England, I guess
You're a little more tired and a little more fat
And soon you'll resolve that you'll change all of that
But you won't. You'll give in with an audible hiss when
Chris...tmas is over

And so and so on and so
Well, we should go if we wanted to see
One last night ride through the lights
Blinking and sparkling to ward off the nights but
Christmas...is over

And really it isn't so bad
Things could be worse and for some folks it is
You've got your people, your cat, your gin fizz
I'm happy as long as we all can do this when
Chris...tmas is over
Chris...tmas is over
