by Kaptain Karl

Snow lies around like a blank sheet of paper
Stories are piling in drifts
The wind she is cold and we cannot escape her
And all of her windy cold tricks
Out in the night I look up
For something that will fill my cup
Presents from Santa, Salvation from Christ
Two things incomparable, compared in the night
And all the way home I stay warm
With something that is taking form
What am I getting, and what have I given
And what is the think I have thought?
One is a story of blessings from heaven
And one is a story I've bought
Memories rise from the deep
And populate all of my sleep
Chasing our stories and choosing our tales
Glimpses of gold in a midwinter gale
And stop now to rest in the door
Of this station with snow on the floor
Stories survive us, surrounded in snow
Wings on the wings of the storm
Turning again to these things we half know
Golden, inspired, and torn
Deep in my pocket a hole
Creeps down till it touches my soul
And we are so simple we can't understand
The fear and the joy that we walk hand in hand
And here we are back home again
With peace and good will to men.
